Homebirth Testimony

(This Homebirth testimony was written by a Mom who had just had her second baby. It was her first homebirth.)

When I found out I was pregnant, I was quite surprised. We weren't planning to have another baby, so needless to say we were shocked. Initially we thought we'd borrow the money to pay for the birth in a hospital even though our last birth experience in a hospital was not very pleasant. A friend had just married a midwife apprentice and they came over to share with us about midwifery. She left me with a lot of reading material and the more I read the more I was convinced that I wanted to have my baby at home. So I started interviewing midwives. Vickie was the second of three midwives I interviewed. I immediately felt a bond with her and although I did interview one other midwife, I had already made up my mind that I wanted Vickie. Each prenatal visit was enjoyable with Vickie (and sometimes Marilyncame too). She spent so much time with me and made sure I was informed of the development of my baby and encouraged me to take good care of myself.

The big day arrived in the middle of the night. I called Vickie at 5:00 a.m., and she arrived in 25 minutes. Vickie was so supportive during my labor. At the beginning, when I had back labor, Vickie massaged my back during each contraction. She let me stand, sit, lay, or whatever position was most comfortable for me. My husband really appreciated her as well because he was allowed to sleep during the beginning of my labor but was there in our room during the pushing and delivery. I used a birthing chair. it was the most comfortable position for me (if one can be comfortable at that point). Renee Lee showed her face at 9:30 a.m. After cleaning up a bit and getting me comfortable, my parents and son came in to see her when she was only 5 minutes old. It was a very special time for me and my family. Before Vickie left, she prayed with me, my friend who had assisted, and my mother. It was a very special moment. If I was to have any more children, I would definitely use Vickie again.
